The one part of chemotherapy Kate Middleton almost couldn’t quit

Kate Middleton received the good news she is in remission from cancer around 12 months on from being diagnosed with the disease and beginning chemotherapy, but there is one part of healing the Princess of Wales wasn’t sure to give up.

The 43-year-old broke the news on Monday, January 14 after visiting the Royal Marsden Hospital in West London, the same site the Royal Family member received her treatment during an emotional return to visit other patients.

 

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know,” Middleton said in a social post, reflected on her battle. “It takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.”

And it seems as though she had a stumble in her own adjustment to normality as an insider claims she didn’t want to give up her treatment port, the device used to administer anti-cancer drugs and medicine.

Usually left in for weeks or months at a time, the Duchess of Edinburgh admitted she grew attached to the “safeness” of the aid and revealed her uncertainty when the doctors told her it was time to surrender it.

“I got so attached to it,” Middleton said, as per The Daily Mail, before saying she hesitated when it was time to take it out whilst speaking to a patient named Katherine Field.

Middleton backs Royal Marsden

In her desire to give back to the hospital, the mother-of-three and future Queen Consort revealed she is a Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden and will be “supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence”.

Additionally, she will support families through the gesture, which is a token of support and a quest to raise awareness of a particular condition, issue or ailment within society. However, it does not guarantee funding.

Whilst Middleton has beaten cancer, King Charles III is yet to shrug off his own battle with the disease. Queen Elizabeth II’s successor has fought the condition since January 2024, but the 75-year-old is yet to give the public an all-clear.
